The Navy celebrates its Patron, Saint Nikolas

The official celebration of Saint Nikolas, Patron of the Navy Forces, took place on the "LT GEN. EVANGELOS FLORAKIS", at Mari, on December 06th 2018.

Saint Nikolas decided at some point, according to the tradition, to travel by boat to the Holy Land to worship. During the voyage a storm collapsed, causing panic in both the crew and passengers. However, the Saint did not lose his faith. He prayed to God, and the sea calmed down.

The salvation of that ship, done with the prodigious intervention of the miraculous Saint Nikolas, established the Saint, without being a sailor, as the Patron of seafarers all over the world.

The official celebration was attended by the Minister of Defense, Mr. Savvas Aggelides, the Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus Mr. Ilias Fotopoulos, the Member of both the Parliament and the Parliamentary Defence Committee Mr Georgios Karoullas, the leadership of the National Guard General Staff, representatives of the Police Forces and Fire Service, state and military officials, Commanders of Formations and Commands of the NG as well as foreign Defense Attachés accredited in Cyprus.

In this year's official celebration also took part the Greek HS "THEMISTOKLIS", which is located in the region as part of its participation in UNIFIL.

After the end of the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to watch α demonstration of weapon systems and assets.
