Visit of the Hellenic Naval Academy to Cyprus

  The Hellenic Naval Academy visited Cyprus from Thursday 23rd until Sunday, August 26th, 2018, with the participation of all naval cadets (1st, 2nd and 3rd Class) who were on board of the General Support Ship “PROMETHEUS" of the Hellenic Navy.

  The GSS "PROMETHEUS" called into the Limassol port, in the framework of the annual Summer Training Trip, which was held in the Mediterranean Sea area, for the purpose of practical training at sea and the acquisition of nautical knowledge and experience from the cadets. The training activity is also attended by the 25 Greek Cypriot cadets from all specialties, 3 of which are women.

  During the stay of the ship on the island, the Commander of "PROMETHEUS", Captain Athanasios SPANOS, held etiquette visits to the political, religious, military and local authorities in the cities of Limassol and Nicosia. In addition, naval cadet delegations visited the Holy Monastery of Kykkos, as well as the Tomb of Makedonitissa and the Imprisoned Graves, where the Captain of the ship laid a wreath.

  The public had the opportunity to visit the "PROMETHEUS" ship at the port of Limassol on the 23rd and 25th of August 2018.

  On Sunday, August 26th, 2018, as part of the further deepening of the cooperation of the Armed Forces between Cyprus and Greece, a PASSEX exercise was conducted between the "PROMETHEUS" and "IOANNIDIS" ships. During the exercise, technical training was carried out, such as the conduct of offshore petroleum replenishment procedures, as well as the adoption of tactical formations and the execution of advanced maneuvers.
