The Chief of the National Guard Lieutenant General Leontaris carried out an official visit to Lebanon, from 20 to 22 August 2019. This was a reciprocal visit to his counterpart Lieutenant General Joseph AOUN, who visited Cyprus in March 2019, in the framework of the Bilateral Military Cooperation Programme between the Republic of Cyprus and Lebanon.

The Chief of the National Guard was accompanied by the Commander of the Airforce Command, Brigadier General Gabriel Pattichis and the Director of the International Relations Directorate of the NGGS, Lt. Colonel Christos Georgiou. The two parties discussed issues of common interest, exchanged views on the developments in the region and sought ways of strengthening the military cooperation between the two countries.

During the visit the Chief of Defence laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and watched the Joined and Combined Exercise “Eagle’s Talon” with the participation of the Airborne Regiment. He also watched an exercise of the Marine Commandos Regiment, where he had the honour, along with Lebanese Chief of Defence, to inaugurate the Regiment’s Decompression Chamber Room.

Furthermore, the Chief of the National Guard had a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Cyprus in Beirut Mrs. Christina Rafti.
