Annual Firing Competition of Homeguards – Exercise “SARISA – 2019”

 On the 18th of April 2019, the Homeguards Directorate of National Guard conducted the Annual Firing Competition, at Kornos Firing Range, with the participation of Homeguard’s Teams coming from the Homeguards Units of National Guard.

 The winners, collectively and individually were awarded by the Chief of National Guard Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris and the Member of Parliament and Committee of Defense Affairs Karoullas Giorgos, in a ceremony followed the firing.

 The Chief of NG, during his speech, he described the Annual Firing Competition as the culmination of the training in the Homeguard’s Units and pointed that it features the combat readiness and effectiveness of Homeguards. Furthermore, Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris, congratulated all Homeguards for their participation, describing it as an action of selflessness and loyalty to the country.

 Moreover, on the 19th of April, the exercise “SARISA – 2019” was conducted at the military camp “KALLI SAKKA” in Lythrodonta, with the participation of the 41th Homeguard Battalion of the Homeguards Directorate of National Guard and Aleksandroupolis Homeguard Battalion of Greece’s Army General Staff.

 The aim of the exercise was the cooperation and co-training between the Homeguards in a built up area battle, under, as realistic as possible, conditions. The mission given was mopping up houses, which were defended by riflemen.

 The Chief of National Guard was present during the exercise, and at the end he congratulated all participants, paid tribute to their combat spirit, their exceptional operational readiness and their increased morale. He also, referred especially to the ingenuity of the exercise’s contributors and to the variety of means available for use, in order to advance the level of reality.
