The Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces General Joseph AOUN paid an official visit to Cyprus on 18 and 19 March 2019.
General AOUN was officially welcomed by the Chief of the National Guard Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris, where their own private discussion was followed by a meeting between the two delegations.
The two leaders discussed the developments in the Middle East, focusing on the ongoing crisis in Syria as well as the consequences it can have both on security and stability in the region and on the ongoing movement of refugees and immigrants it causes. They also discussed ways of implementing the Military Cooperation program as well as ways to extend it to other areas and activities.
Then, the Lebanese CHOD had a ceremonial meeting with the Minister of Defense, Mr. Savvas Angelides and deposited a wreath at the Tomb of Makedonitissa.
General AOUN also visited the Special Forces Command and completed his visit on March 19th, by visiting the Ledra Street Observatory and the Naval Base "Evangelos Florakis" as well as the Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Center.
