Participation of Deputy Chief of NGGS to “ATHENA-18” Conference

   The Deputy Chief of the National Guard General Staff, Lt General Kostas Chrysiliou, participated in the International Conference on Crisis Management and Security "ATHENA-18", which was held on 13th and 14th of November 2018 at the amphitheater of the Hellenic Air Force Academy at the Air Base of Dhekelia.
   The conference, which organized by the Hellenic National Defense General Staff under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Defense, was attended by distinguished speakers from both the academic community and the Armed Forces, and had the subject of “Turning risk into opportunity: An efficient crisis management”.
   Among others, the conference was attended by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alcibiades Stephanis, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy, Vice-Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis HN, the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force, Air Marshal Christos Christodoulou, as well as diplomatic representations, officers of foreign countries, Defence Attachés, representatives of International Organizations, retired Armed Forces executives, as well as delegations of officers from Armed and Security Forces.
   The thematic sections of the conference analyzed:
- The modern challenges as a consequence of immigration, terrorism and hybrid threats, with particular reference to Greece's role in dealing with them.
-The development of the importance, for Europe, of the maritime and energy security in the Mediterranean.
-The predominant role of timely preparation for crisis management.
-The critical factors of Leadership, information and media in effective crisis management and finally
-The need for closer cooperation between international organizations for effective crisis management.
